Pop track

My Composition

I listened to a few artists such as Britney Spears, Backstreet boys, and Aqua.

More artists include Oasis and Cher which I listened to for inspiration.

The first instrument I added was Keys (faded keys synthesizer) by using chords, then I added a melody using a reversed key instrument which complimented the chords.

The next instrument I added was a bass to add depth and energy to the track. I used bass to bring out the lower frequencies of the song and to balance it out

I used a hammered mallets synthesizer to layer over extra notes to make the song sound fuller.

I used a drum loop from 'looperman' called 'four on the floor' drums to compliment the bassline.

I used a step sequencer for everything except the drum track because it is a sample.

I used a 4/4 time signature and the tempo of the track is 95 beats per minute but if I made it again, I would change this to 100bpm - 120bpm to fit the usual speed of pop.

I added audio FX to my instruments. The first instrument I added them to was:

Reversed key had compression on to prevent any peaking and distorting the mix.

Bass had an amplifier to widen the dynamic range and compression, so it did not distort.

The drum track was left dry because I did not have any time to add FX to it. With more time in the future, I would add FX to make them punchy and clearer.

My Research

Introduction

Pop, also known as popular music, is a music genre rooted in different musical styles. Formed in the USA and the UK, 1990's pop originated from music genres like techno, (also known as dance or house music), rock, and hip-hop.

Pop is quite upbeat, so it is around 100bpm to 120bpm.

Pop music in the 1990's publicized more teen pop and dance-pop trends and reinvented fashion trends through the use of their iconic music videos. 1990's pop music is so vast and influential that most articles and websites reference their impact on today's culture and music rather than speaking about how the style itself came about.
